Shooting Day 1
Yesterday was the very first shoot day for the film, and let me tell you; it was even better than I ever could have imagined. Being there yesterday, I realised I'd picked the perfect people to play each character, and the whole thing became a beautiful collaborative exercise in modern commedia dell'arte.
Setting up my fake body in the graveyard by myself whilst my husband ran to get drinks and last minute things was an absolute hoot. I must have looked so dodgy setting it up then trying to cover it with my body as much as I could so if anyone could see, it didn't look too strange! The graveyard ended up being basically deserted whilst everyone took to the park outside to listen to the hottest 100. The weather remained perfect, the bloopers were rife and hilarious as dogs ran through the scenes and we couldn't be more delighted.
Not only this, but it was so wonderful to be able to catch up with all these amazing and inspiring people I haven't seen in so long due to Covid measures; and to be able to do my favourite thing of creating something together has made my heart sing. I was able to get the shots done in less than hour thanks to everyone being so positive and open to direction and fun. Honestly, I couldn't have asked for a better first day of filming; and I'm now so pumped to film the other scenes and have more days of creative happiness. Yesterday also saw our little group meet the wonderful Dennis, an extra who turned up as a Priest and stole the scene and all our hearts! I can't wait for everyone to just see Dennis in the final film, he's too good. The man should be a movie star already! And so here we are; Scene 2 Part One - DONE! I'm coming for the Blue Mountains to film Part Two in the coming weeks to shoot the same with different extras. Having done it once now, I'm so much more confident with how future shoots will go; and I've got that courage beneath my wings knowing that the people who love me and support my creative dreams will be there every step of the way.
